Brief History of Tehran
In year 1788 AD Aga Muhammad Khan, the founder of the Qajar dynasty, made this city his capital. After that the city continued to develop at a rapid pace. It is located in a fertile agricultural region, where wheat, sugar beet, fruits and cotton production is important. The main industries are textiles, cement, metal goods, chemicals, glass, sugar, matches, cigarettes, soap etc. It is connected to the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea by railways. Harabad Airport is located 5.6 kilometers west of the city, through which many foreign airways pass. Tehran University, established since 1935, is a center of higher education.
The notable buildings here include Raj Bhavan, Museum, Mosques etc. The Raj Bhavan houses the Peacock Throne, which was brought from Delhi by Nadir Shah in 1939.
